CHARLOTTE, North Carolina: The PGA Championship will shift from August to Might, starting up in 2019, the PGA of The usa announced on Tuesday.
PGA of The usa CEO Pete Bevacqua confirmed the information at a joint push convention with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan at Quail Hollow.
“The landscape of golf is altering,” Bevacqua said, citing the reinclusion of golf in the Olympics as a major reason for the swap.
“We felt it was important as an organisation to seize this prospect.”
The swap will carry about a reshuffling of the get in which the 4 men’s majors are held.
Instead of remaining the final major of the calendar year, the PGA Championship will grow to be the next of the year, right after the April Masters.
The U.S. Open in June will be the 3rd major, with the British Open in July concluding the majors routine.
The PGA Championship has been held in August due to the fact 1972, besides for final calendar year, when it was performed in July to accommodate golf’s return to the Olympics.
Monahan also announced that the Gamers Championship would shift from Might to March.
